Proposed New Therapy Centre

new-premises

Over the last few years our membership has increased by 15 to 20% per annum, such is the demand for what we do. In 2010 it increased by over 33%. This rapid expansion has placed increasing pressure on the limited space we have available. At the same time, our existing prefabricated building is giving rise to increasing costs of maintenance and repair.

The Trustees therefore commissioned Graham Carter Associates to design a new purpose-built facility to be developed on the adjacent site, and for which Planning Consent was granted on 1 February 2011.

His exciting, yet functional, design gives us more space for our existing services, whilst also allowing us room to expand the range of therapies we offer. It also meets our brief to permit future expansion of those areas dedicated to our primary services without compromising the central social area which is so vital to the atmosphere of the Centre.

The building will be of high energy efficiency, using materials which will give rise to minimum liability for repair and maintenance, thereby keeping annual operating costs to a minimum.

The estimated cost of constructing and fitting out the new Centre is in the region of £1million. So far we have raised over £330,000 towards this target by various fundraising events and by generous donations from our many supporters. Whilst continuing with these initiatives, we have appointed Steph Senior as Volunteer Development Funding Manager whose sole responsibility will be to approach the major funds and trusts for the balance of the funding required to complete this project. Our Existing Therapy Centre

existing_therapy_centre

Our existing Therapy Centre pictured here, is housed in a prefabricated building which was put in place 27 years ago and given a lifespan of 15 years. Although the building has been carefully maintained, naturally, 27 years on, it’s nearing the end of its useful life. With a huge increase in membership over the past 5 years the building is no longer large enough to accommodate the facilities we need to meet the increasing demand for the therapies and services we provide.
