Therapies
Physiotherapy
|
We use a neurological approach to help participants control and co-ordinate movement patterns, reduce spasticity and encourage more normal movements and to regain functional abilities. Treatments are tailored and then monitored to the individual needs of each person.
Physiotherapy has a vital role in helping people to cope with the daily challenges of living with MS. |
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
At the Centre we have a hyperbaric oxygen chamber which can accommodate up to 10 people. The chamber can be pressurised up to twice normal atmospheric pressure with air depending on the participants response. Pure oxygen is then breathed through a face mask for an hour. Many people gain relief from symptoms, in particular fatigue and bladder function. Regular treatment can have a beneficial long-term effect.
Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy aims to provide people with time and space for a relaxing and soothing experience in a warm, supportive atmosphere. Massage improves the circulation. It relaxes tense muscles and is an excellent way to unwind and help restore a sense of well being and balance.
Chiropody
Our Chiropodist uses a variety of methods to help you and your feet, providing advice on all aspects of footcare.
Reflexology
A unique relaxing foot massage which can help in a variety of different ways including reducing anxiety, stress and tension.
Yoga
Yoga is able to assist people with MS. It’s gentle movements and breathing and meditation techniques improve and help maintain energy flow with minimal physical effort. Fitness and clarity of the mind are improved, whilst further degeneration can in many cases be slowed down.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of the healing method of ancient Chinese medicine and is a treatment which can have many benefits for people with MS. We are delighted to welcome Dr Philip Petts, a fully qualified and experienced acupuncturist and chiropractor, who will be joining the team at the Centre and providing a service from 10th January 2012.
